Welcome to the official Les Chats Girls Basketball site!
Mission
The
Les Chats Basketball Club has been established with the purpose of providing girls to opportunity to improve
their life skills through the great game of basketball. The club is open to anyone regardless of race, ethnicity or background.
The Les Chats model is motivated by research that shows that kids who are active in sports fare better
academically and have better self-esteem.
Therefore, the primary mission of Les Chats Basketball Club is
to use Basketball as a platform to academic and self excellence.
Les Chats History
The Les Chats Basketball
Club was founded in the spring of 2004, as a 6th grade girls competitive basketball team. In the summer of 2005 a 4th grade
girls team was added an in 2007, a 2nd grade team formed.
Based in the Kansas City suburb of Overland Park, the
club currently has a high school girls team, a 6th grade girls team, a 3rd/4th grade girls team, and a 7th
grade boys team. The older team founded in 2004 has moved on to successfully play with their high school.
All of the members of the initial team will be freshmen in college next year, and are on the path to becoming great citizens.
The hallmark of the Les Chats teams is individual skill development both defensive and offensive. The expectation
is for all players to be the best basketball players that they can be at both ends of the court.
We hope to accomplish
this by playing for a schedule that provides our young athletes a stable and consistent training
schedule. We also allow for breaks during the season to allow our young athletes sufficient time to recuperate.
We also strongly believe that young athletes should continue to pursue other interests and or sports. Our schedules are
reasonably flexible to allow for this to be a reality
Our results have been very flattering with several top
finishes at major local, regional and National tournaments.
In 2011, while playing up, the HS team won 3
USJN National tournaments and finished runner up in the other. The HS team has also qualified for 10th grade AAU in Florida
by winning the Missouri Valley District tournament. This team also won the NIKE Invitational Black division in Chicago.
In 2009, the 7th grade team finished 3rd in 2009 AAU U12 Nationals at Kinsport, TN. In 2008, the same group of
girls as 6th graders finished 7th at the AAU U11nationals in Branson, MO.
In 2009, the 4th (then 3rd) graders placed
3rd at the MAYB nationals in Oklahoma City, OK.
However, our greatest results have been the performance of the
girls at school. All of our players are expected to maintain at least a B average, and several are actually straight A students.
Les Chats basketball club will seek the most competitive tournaments for its teams. As such we play in all major
basketball events including NIKE Invitationals, AAU, USJN, USSSA, MAYB and several local tournaments.
Les Chats Goals and Objectives
Our primary goal is to use Basketball as a platform to academic and self excellence. Our secondary goal is to raise
the competitive level of girls' basketball in Kansas and expose our female student athletes to the best women's basketball
coaches and competition in the nation. To achieve these goals we will;
- Maintain a club, which promotes the game of basketball for girls.
- Offer a program that focuses on basketball skills development, team play
and basketball education
- Strive to be financially sound and
provide affordable membership to all those who are willing and able to make a commitment to our club.
- Provide assistance to economically disadvantaged members who are willing to make a commitment
to our club.
- Provide coaching and use other resources that enhance
player development.
- Be an example of class and quality, conducting
ourselves in an honorable and sportsmanlike manner.
- Strive to
seek out the strongest competition; strong competition helps the team/players improve and reveals opportunities for growth.
- Be a positive force in the local community by seeking out opportunities
for community service.
- Compete at the state and national level.
- Look for opportunities where the players can be exposed to College
Coaches.
If you are a hard working dedicated player who
wants to improve his/her game and who is willing to commit for the entire year.
- This Club is for you!
